Silence, Solitude, Serenity

ree

To keep it simple, here are five steps I find myself continuously taking in order to enter into my space of serenity. Amass growing international concerns regarding financial security, housing instability, mental and emotional well-being, abrupt lifestyle changes, familial and professional stressors and the like… feeling empowered to adopt minor lifestyle changes to include in one’s space of peace is pivotal for a holistic, healthy and balanced state of being. Whoever you are, wherever you are, whatever is transpiring in your life in this current moment… I encourage you... to read and enjoy this brief personal excerpt. Do so at your own pace… if you feel ignited, charged, reassured or simply comforted by anything you read- thank you for doing something so kind for yourself. We all need some more unsolicited kindness.

1. Stretch

a. Simply put… I find myself entering into a space to practice stretching. I use Yoga as my medium. and before you know it, I start feeling parts of my body changing. It is a delicious feeling, and one I can own all for myself in the moment. Typically, it changes into my form of movement which is dancing.

2. Sway or Dance

a. I am a fan of belly-dancing. I have always enjoyed the slow and sultry movements of my body. It makes me feel sexy and powerful. I have fun, I am living in the present moment and honestly ha, it turns into one heck of a workout!

3. Soak

a. Water, its stillness is beguiling to me. I find a safe haven when I am immersed in a body of fluid. When it’s warm, well… that is just like devouring a cream cheese icing spread on vanilla cake.

4. Smoothie Smooch or Sensational Snacking

a. Power packing my body with necessary nutritional vitamins is a tell-tale. We have heard numerous accounts for the importance and significance of treating our body in a nourishing way. We all have dietary restrictions so please, find the best power-pack snack that works best for YOU. You are the most important person in this space. The MOST important. Personally, I love the act of preparing a fruit tray. It is calming, relaxing, allows me to feel attuned with the fine movements of my fingers and hands. I like when my fruits are room temperature (except my grapes, I like them nice and cold) I also enjoy adding peanut or cashew butter, warm vanilla cake, melted ice-cream, Nutella, craisins, honey coated roasted almonds and slices of cheese. I am feeling a desire for some fruit as I am typing this. Sigh.

5. Sleep

a. Sigh… indeed. Sigh, yawns and the sound of easing into a recently laundry-ed (hopefully that word is appropriate… it flowed out of me effortlessly) blanket in bed. Candles (choose wisely, some wax burning for long periods of time may cause respiratory discomfort) are an added benefit. Temperature is key, feel your body respond to warmer and colder environments to note which space better transitions you to sleep comfortably.

6. Snuggles

a. No words necessary for this item. I live in gratitude for my furry companions who come at all hours of the night and day to snuggle up beside me. Now more than ever, I am thankful for the aura of my companions. Love is not a word I can use to describe how much I care for my babies.

In gratitude and love,

Dr. Faith
