Dance to Your Own Beat

Writing has always remained a sanctuary for me in my wounded states- from childhood well into adolescence. For me it is a place of confession where nothing has to be hidden or kept away as a secret. Writing has always evoked healing in my life. When I begin writing I believe it is the work of my third eye, the place each and every one of us can tap into and use as sustenance.Mindfulness sustains many who seek to give a different type of expression to their lives. When I tap into myself and become mindful I am speaking from the place within that is loving, kind, abundant and joyful.

Another form of expression for me lies in the act of West African Dance. The drums create a divine experience where I can feel my essence first through a union with the Earth and with nature. Through this experience I ultimately fashion a place in my practice that is fundamentally rooted in understanding the value of human movement.

Taking time to experience ourselves practicing mindfulness is one way we can gain a sense of living a restorative life. Many consider the New Year a prime opportunity to create a restorative resolution for themselves. There is nothing wrong with goal setting, certainly for reasons like charting a new journey. But why do so many goals fall through the crack weeks into a new year? I invite you to set a goal for yourselves this year and dance to your own beat. Use your third eye and from that place of love, abundance, and joy plan your goal so you can realistically achieve them. Once your goal is planned, create moments. Allow those individual experiences to evoke a connection that will help you define what your goal is doing to better you mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. This connection will help you create a methodology to complete your goal because you will have a stronger sense of gratification for it.

So go, create your beat, and then dance to it.
