Your day has ended, you swiftly float through the door to find a magnificently decorated room. The luminescence glow of the innumerable candles and essential oils compliments the commanding design of a rustic luxurious den.

You are intrigued by the romantic layout of the room. You begin to relax-to enjoy and admire the events of your day. You gracefully make your way to your balcony. The clear night sky begins to reveal a perfect moon and millions of brilliant stars, each softly reflected by the nearby lake below. As the stillness and silence of the lake gently enters your consciousness it produces a hypnotic sound.

You saunter back into the room and gently gaze around to observe the lit candles and essential aroma filling the air. The combined effect causes your body to sink into a relaxing state.

Our sense of smell is 10,000 more times stronger than our sense of taste. Aromatherapy is a great way to embark on a sensory journey.

Aromatherapy may stimulate our Olfactory system and connect to our Limbic system which is the connection to our emotions in our brain. While certain studies on aromatherapy are ongoing, Medicinal Based Research shows, “inhaled aromatherapy has become a popular, gentle treatment to reduce mild anxiety. Aromatherapy has also been tried for a variety of other conditions, including respiratory problems, postsurgical nausea, menstrual pain, and tension headaches. Topical treatment with essential oils has shown possible value for fungal infections and hair loss. Essential oils specifically designed for oral use have shown some promise for various digestive and respiratory problems.”

The National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy is a 501(c)3 member based non-profit association devoted to the holistic integration and education of aromatherapy into a wide range of complementary healthcare practices including self care and home pharmacy.

As the candlewick slowly burns, the flame dances with the crisp evening air. You listen to the stillness of the lake. The lavender scented oils fill the room and you gently sink into your chair, ready for rest. Breathe.
